Preserving Tax Cuts for the Wealthy is Unconscionable: A Secretary Should Not Pay More Than the Boss in Taxes ...

In response to the Budget Control Act of 2011, I sent the following letter to my Republican Congressional representative:

I want to express my strong opinion that repealing tax cuts for wealthy Americans needs to be a part of what's on the table for healing our economy. It's becoming embarrassingly omitted -- it's the elephant in the room -- and the majority of the people in the country believe that now is not the time to preserve / extend these tax cuts. ALL Americans must help share responsibility. To so assiduously avoid even asking them for more is tantamount to replacing our democracy with a feudal system -- something we fought a revolutionary war to get away from. Hello! It's RIDICULOUS that participation from the income of wealthier Americans is not a part of our debt crisis solution. Why don't we actually poll the wealthier Americans?

What self-respecting, individual American would actually agree that a secretary should pay more than her boss in taxes? Anybody? Well, this is the kind of disparity we are looking at.

The tenacious, ill-spirited stonewalling on this subject by Congressional Republicans is embarrassing, un-American, not team-oriented and has racist overtones.

Politics has gotten blown all out of proportion. Now Republicans seem to think that we are paying them to be staunchly partisan -- to defeat Obama at every turn, at all costs -- rather than to provide good governance for this country.

Someone in the Republican leadership needs to step forward and be a grownup. It could do wonders to restore the respect of the people.
