B Corporations ! Wow !

B Lab is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.

It's an important step in recognizing and starting to redirect what will otherwise become an inexorable stampede of profit-driven zombies toward the destruction of the humanity that created them ....

Seriously. Corporations cannot continue to have so much power and be governed by a simple one-pointed focus. "It's not human." Exactly. It's dangerously not human.

It's analogous to creating a robot that can get out of hand and overpower its master. Or, Frankenstein's monster.

Pink Floyd's movie, The Wall, gave an inkling of what's in store if we do not take care that corporations serve people, rather than vice versa.

The B corporation is an innovative model that seeks to change from within:

"Current events present a unique opportunity for us collectively to redefine success in business. Our message of using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems has never been more resonant."

450 businesses have joined forces to start putting some heart into corporations. They're advocating legislation and branding for corporations that participate, and partner for publicity, marketing, evaluations, certifications.

Case in Point. Why Citizens United is Bad Law.

Here see an ABC news report on the Koch brothers having traded with Iran, after it was banned during George W. Bush's administration.

ABC News Report: ‘Secret Sins’ of Koch Industries | DCCC

ABC News Report: ‘Secret Sins’ of Koch Industries | DCCC:

'via Blog this'

The Citizens United ruling puts too much power in the hands of un-elected persons. It undermines our democracy. At such, I consider it to be unconstitutional. That's a difficult case to make, considering the highest court in the land has made that decision.

In this case, it has put power in the hands of those who seem to be quite cavalier about obeying the law. Is this who we want to govern?

Death of the Middle Class was in 1981 Says Michael Moore

In 30 Years Ago Today: The Day the Middle Class Died ...a letter from Michael Moore, he states that the beginning of our current economic collapse was when then President Ronald Reagan on August 6, 1981, fired every member of the air traffic controllers union (PATCO) who'd defied his order to return to work and declared their union illegal. They had been on strike for just two days.

It's been all down hill from there.

Preserving Tax Cuts for the Wealthy is Unconscionable: A Secretary Should Not Pay More Than the Boss in Taxes ...

In response to the Budget Control Act of 2011, I sent the following letter to my Republican Congressional representative:

(Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

I want to express my strong opinion that repealing tax cuts for wealthy Americans needs to be a part of what's on the table for healing our economy. It's becoming embarrassingly omitted -- it's the elephant in the room -- and the majority of the people in the country believe that now is not the time to preserve / extend these tax cuts. ALL Americans must help share responsibility. To so assiduously avoid even asking them for more is tantamount to replacing our democracy with a feudal system -- something we fought a revolutionary war to get away from. Hello! It's RIDICULOUS that participation from the income of wealthier Americans is not a part of our debt crisis solution. Why don't we actually poll the wealthier Americans?

What self-respecting, individual American would actually agree that a secretary should pay more than her boss in taxes? Anybody? Well, this is the kind of disparity we are looking at.

The tenacious, ill-spirited stonewalling on this subject by Congressional Republicans is embarrassing, un-American, not team-oriented and has racist overtones.

Politics has gotten blown all out of proportion. Now Republicans seem to think that we are paying them to be staunchly partisan -- to defeat Obama at every turn, at all costs -- rather than to provide good governance for this country.

Someone in the Republican leadership needs to step forward and be a grownup. It could do wonders to restore the respect of the people.

A Threat to Democracy

Why is the current corporate structure inimical to democracy?

Corporate corruption creates financial meltdown.

Financial meltdown is disproportionately suffered by poor, seniors and middle class.

Poverty gives rise to need for extreme measures, i.e., appointment of financial manager dictator to "correct" the situation.

And, voila! bye-bye democracy!

Just like that.

With A Stroke Of His Pen Obama Strikes Back At Citizens United // Current

With A Stroke Of His Pen Obama Strikes Back At Citizens United // Current

At least as far as would-be and government contractors are concerned, no anonymous political donations are allowed, according to the Executive Order of our President.

This Current article does a good job of discussing the issue.

Over-amped Executive Compensation is a Symptom of Corporations without Heart

Mother Jones made a detailed report on the CEO compensation of ten corporations that had increased executive compensation egregiously despite the desperate condition that many middle class and unemployed citizens find themselves in.

In an earlier article, Mother Jones demonstrated how "CEO Pay Shoots Up At Expense of Workers."

BP, despite the horrendous devastation to the Southeast also handsomely rewarded its principals.

This nonstop trudging toward profit profit profit at ALL costs is insane.

A course correction is in order. Do we have a government "of the people, for the people and by the people" -- or do we really want to have a government "of the corporations, for the corporations and by the corporations"?

In order to bring corporations into line with our own federal Constitution and Declaration of Independence, it's time to take a look at corporations codes across the country. Or perhaps it's time for a constitutional challenge to reestablish the horse before the cart.

"You Have to Pay Taxes Next Week and GE Doesn't"

Bill Maher on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher reported that GE, General Electric made $14 billion in profits this last year, but will not pay any taxes. This was discussed in his April 8th broadcast, which I'll embed here when it becomes available.

Something is wrong with this picture, eh?

Bonuses Given to Execs in Charge During BP Disaster

A continuing shocker ... corporate execs are awarded bonuses for the "best safety year ever," even though eleven lives were lost, countless businesses were ruined and the environment was ravaged.

Corporations are machines -- designed to make profits. Period. They do not have the capacity to consider human costs, nor health, safety nor welfare. That is the province and indeed the mandate of government. Hello? Government?

"Send in the Corporate Cash ... We'll Get 'Em" -- Koch et al. Goes After the People of Wisconsin

The spokesperson for the Koch Brothers' interests in Wisconsin is encouraging "corporate funding" to turn around the political gains made by the People of the state, as they go against the union-stripping edict of new governor Scott Walker, and begin the recall process against those who supported it, and in the wake of an upset in that state's Supreme Court election, also in reaction to the anti-union campaign of the Koch-funded governor.

This despite an overwhelming majority of actual human people having expressed themselves to the contrary.

Citizens United: what happened?

A video is worth a 1000 words. Here's what I'm talkin' about:

The Story of Citizens United v. FEC, released on March 1st, 2011 at storyofcitizensunited.org, explores the history of the American corporation and corporate political spending, the appropriate roles of citizens and for-profit corporations in a democracy and the toxic impact the Citizens United decision is already having on our political process. It ends with a call to amend the U.S. constitution to confirm that people—not corporations—make the decisions in a democracy.

To support the effort to pass a constitutional amendment to negate Citizens United, and to find out who is behind this superb video, click here.

Exxon Mobil gets $156 MILLION tax rebate

One Person, One Vote - Not Good Enough for Corporations?

Michael Moore, in his much-heralded speech to the Wisconsin demonstrators, stated:
"America ain't broke! The only thing that's broke is the moral compass of the rulers. And we aim to fix that compass and steer the ship ourselves from now on. Never forget, as long as that Constitution of ours still stands, it's one person, one vote, and it's the thing the rich hate most about America -- because even though they seem to hold all the money, and all the cards, they begrudgingly know this one unshakeable basic fact: There are more of us than there are of them!"

Take a look at Americans for Prosperity, a Koch brothers organization. They create demonstrations with buses, hire demonstrators, print signs.

Citizens United ... the Hallowed Supreme Court Tarnishes its Halo

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, a U.S. Supreme Court decision, 5-4, included positive votes by Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia, both of whom have been feted by the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference), has devastating effects on the balance of power in the United States.

As a result of this decision, corporations now have the right to provide unlimited, anonymous funds to political campaigns.

As Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine put it, now the corporations have nukes and they're ready to go after the rest of us with our slingshots.

To me, this is so patently unconstitutional, I cannot believe it is the law of the land.

Stunned.
