A Threat to Democracy
Why is the current corporate structure inimical to democracy?
Corporate corruption creates financial meltdown.
Financial meltdown is disproportionately suffered by poor, seniors and middle class.
Poverty gives rise to need for extreme measures, i.e., appointment of financial manager dictator to "correct" the situation.
And, voila! bye-bye democracy!
Just like that.

With A Stroke Of His Pen Obama Strikes Back At Citizens United // Current
With A Stroke Of His Pen Obama Strikes Back At Citizens United // Current
At least as far as would-be and government contractors are concerned, no anonymous political donations are allowed, according to the Executive Order of our President.
This Current article does a good job of discussing the issue.

Over-amped Executive Compensation is a Symptom of Corporations without Heart
Mother Jones made a detailed report on the CEO compensation of ten corporations that had increased executive compensation egregiously despite the desperate condition that many middle class and unemployed citizens find themselves in.
In an earlier article, Mother Jones demonstrated how "CEO Pay Shoots Up At Expense of Workers."
BP, despite the horrendous devastation to the Southeast also handsomely rewarded its principals.
This nonstop trudging toward profit profit profit at ALL costs is insane.
A course correction is in order. Do we have a government "of the people, for the people and by the people" -- or do we really want to have a government "of the corporations, for the corporations and by the corporations"?
In order to bring corporations into line with our own federal Constitution and Declaration of Independence, it's time to take a look at corporations codes across the country. Or perhaps it's time for a constitutional challenge to reestablish the horse before the cart.

"You Have to Pay Taxes Next Week and GE Doesn't"
Bill Maher on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher reported that GE, General Electric made $14 billion in profits this last year, but will not pay any taxes. This was discussed in his April 8th broadcast, which I'll embed here when it becomes available.

Bonuses Given to Execs in Charge During BP Disaster
A continuing shocker ... corporate execs are awarded bonuses for the "best safety year ever," even though eleven lives were lost, countless businesses were ruined and the environment was ravaged.
Corporations are machines -- designed to make profits. Period. They do not have the capacity to consider human costs, nor health, safety nor welfare. That is the province and indeed the mandate of government. Hello? Government?

"Send in the Corporate Cash ... We'll Get 'Em" -- Koch et al. Goes After the People of Wisconsin
The spokesperson for the Koch Brothers' interests in Wisconsin is encouraging "corporate funding" to turn around the political gains made by the People of the state, as they go against the union-stripping edict of new governor Scott Walker, and begin the recall process against those who supported it, and in the wake of an upset in that state's Supreme Court election, also in reaction to the anti-union campaign of the Koch-funded governor.
This despite an overwhelming majority of actual human people having expressed themselves to the contrary.

Citizens United: what happened?
A video is worth a 1000 words. Here's what I'm talkin' about:
The Story of Citizens United v. FEC, released on March 1st, 2011 at storyofcitizensunited.org, explores the history of the American corporation and corporate political spending, the appropriate roles of citizens and for-profit corporations in a democracy and the toxic impact the Citizens United decision is already having on our political process. It ends with a call to amend the U.S. constitution to confirm that people—not corporations—make the decisions in a democracy.
To support the effort to pass a constitutional amendment to negate Citizens United, and to find out who is behind this superb video, click here.

Exxon Mobil gets $156 MILLION tax rebate
During this time of economic crisis, when drastic cuts are being made to state budgets that actually put health, safety and welfare at great risk, Exxon Mobil, one of the most profitable corporations in the world, actually receives a TAX REBATE from the U.S. Government! Something is wrong with this picture!
Isn't it time for a flat tax -- across the board?
